The Aura

Have you ever walked into a room and instantly felt someone's presence—before they even said a word? Or noticed your own energy shift just by being around certain people or places? That’s your aura at work.

Your aura is a field of subtle, electromagnetic energy that surrounds your body. It reflects not just your physical condition, but also your emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. In many ways, it's your energetic signature—constantly interacting with the world around you and offering insight into what's going on beneath the surface.

What Does Your Aura Contain?

Your aura is more than a colorful light field—it’s an energetic reflection of your entire being. It can hold:

  • Current emotions (joy, stress, love, anger)

  • Physical health conditions

  • Spiritual insights or blocks

  • Residual energy or unprocessed trauma

  • Energy you've absorbed from others

  • Thoughts and belief systems

Your aura is always shifting in response to your emotions, environment, and lifestyle, making it a powerful tool for self-awareness and healing.

The Layers of the Aura: Physical, Emotional, Mental & Spiritual

Your aura is made up of several layers, each vibrating at its own frequency and connected to a different aspect of your being:

1. The Physical Layer

This innermost layer reflects your vitality, physical health, and groundedness. A vibrant physical aura suggests strength and resilience, while a weak or dull layer may indicate fatigue or illness.

2. The Emotional Layer

Just beyond the physical, this layer holds your feelings, moods, and emotional responses. It changes quickly depending on your state of mind and can absorb the emotions of others if not protected.

3. The Mental Layer

This layer carries your thoughts, beliefs, and mindset. A cluttered mental aura can indicate overthinking or anxiety, while a clear one supports confidence, focus, and inspiration.

4. The Spiritual Layers

These outermost layers represent your soul essence and connection to higher consciousness. When these are strong and balanced, you may feel more in tune with your intuition, purpose, and universal flow.

Each layer is deeply connected to the others, so disruptions in one layer often ripple outward, affecting your entire system.

How the Chakras and Aura Are Connected

Your chakras and aura work in harmony to reflect and regulate your energetic health.

Think of your chakras as internal energy centers aligned along your spine—each one influencing different physical and emotional aspects of your life. Your aura is the outer field that acts like a mirror and filter, responding to the inner flow of these chakras.

When chakras are imbalanced, the aura may become clouded or fragile. Similarly, if the aura is disturbed by stress or outside energy, it can cause blockages in the chakras. Keeping both in balance is essential to feeling grounded, open, and vibrant.

How to Feel Your Aura

One of the easiest ways to start tuning into your own aura is through your hands and focused attention:

Try this: Rub your palms together briskly for a few seconds. Then slowly pull them apart and bring them back together again. With awareness, you may feel warmth, tingling, or even a magnetic push—this is your energy field!

You can also feel your aura during meditation, Reiki sessions, or grounding exercises. Pay attention to sensations around your body or subtle shifts in emotion or awareness.

How to Sense Others' Auras

We naturally pick up on other people's energy, even if we don’t realize it. Here are signs you’re tuning into someone’s aura:

  • You feel lighter or more drained around certain people

  • You sense warmth, pressure, or lightness near someone

  • You “see” or imagine colors or images when thinking about a person

With time and intuition, you may even begin sensing texture, color, and flow in someone else’s energetic field.

Can Auras Be Measured?

Yes! Aura photography, Kirlian imaging, and other energetic imaging technologies can visually capture a person’s aura. These often appear as colored halos that shift based on your state of being.

Another way to measure auras is with copper dowsing rods—these intuitive tools react to the subtle energy field surrounding the body. I use them before and after Reiki & Sound Healing sessions to check for shifts in aura size and strength.

Still, the most powerful tool is your own intuition. The more time you spend connecting with your energy, the more attuned you'll become to what your aura is telling you.

What’s the Average Size of an Aura?

The typical human aura extends about 3 to 6 feet in all directions from the body, forming an energetic “bubble” that can fluctuate in size.

  • A strong, expanded aura usually reflects emotional balance, physical health, and spiritual connection.

  • A shrunken or patchy aura may suggest stress, depletion, or unresolved emotional energy.

This energetic radius is always shifting—and serves as an insightful barometer for your well-being.

How to Cleanse and Empower Your Aura

Cleansing your aura is like giving your energetic body a shower. It removes lingering stress, old energy, and energetic debris that may be dimming your light.

Here are my favorite ways to keep the aura vibrant and empowered:

  • Reiki & Sound Healing – My go-to modality for deeply resetting and harmonizing the aura.

  • Salt baths & scrubs – Use Himalayan or sea salt to physically and energetically clear the body.

  • Nature therapy – Walk barefoot on the earth, sit by a stream, or soak up the sunshine.

  • Smoke cleanse – Ethically sourced palo santo, sage, or herbal bundles can sweep away stagnant energy.

  • Visualization – Imagine golden light flowing down through your body and aura, dissolving anything heavy.

  • Crystals – Selenite, black tourmaline, and clear quartz offer protection and clarity.

  • Sound – Singing bowls, chimes, or chanting help elevate and restore your auric frequency.

Your Aura is a Map

Your aura is more than just energy—it’s a map of your well-being. It holds stories, strengths, and signals that can guide your healing journey.

When your aura is clear and strong, you feel centered, emotionally balanced, and aligned with your purpose. And when something feels “off,” it’s often your aura nudging you to tune in and take care.
